Pika 1.5 was just released and offers more realistic movements, cinematic shots, lip-syncing, and custom special effects such as exploding, melting, inflating, crushing and many more.
This new version creates Hollywood-quality, 5 second clips with more control over your shots, such as cinematic camera angles, and movements like running and flying look more naturalistic, as well.
Pika 1.5 is transforming content creation across all different industries due to their new professional video capabilities for everyday users.
Educator
Classroom Activity
I designed a classroom activity for students to generate text-to-video and image-to-video using Pika 1.0 (Pika 1.5 was not yet released). They could choose any image and any prompt that they wanted to generate. I created this assignment for them to be as creative as possible using their own ideas and expressions when creating their outputs. I felt that when there are certain constraints on assignments, students aren’t able to reach their creative potential.
Student Work Examples
Here are some of the student work examples with text-to-image and image-to-video. I wish the free version of the video generator was longer, but it at least gives you a glimpse of the text-to-video and image-to-video outputs. I felt that the text-to-video outputs were much successful than the image-to-video outputs. Sometimes you could barely see a change in the image-to-video outputs. Overall, I thought this was a success for students to use Pika and see what the application’s able to create.

My Ratings
Education Value (5/5)
I would recommend this platform to other educators, as it can be used for video content creation in class.
Usability (4/5)
I believe Pika is very easy to use, but you must be detailed in your prompt to get a successful output, and prompt engineering takes practice. Pika 1.5 is much easier to use as it already gives you prompts.
Cost (3/5)
You can get a glimpse of video for 3 seconds for free until you upgrade your plan. This is the Basic Plan. The Standard Plan is $8/month, for more videos and more features. The Pro Plan is $28/month for more speed, more videos and more fun. The Unlimited Plan is $76/month for endless generations for endless ideas. These are all billed yearly. The prices increase when billed monthly.

Positive
Productivity boost?
With Pika 1.5, not only will this create a faster way to generate videos, this will play a major factor in producing more content creation at a quicker rate. Users will be able to generate numerous videos in one day compared to one video that could take a week, month, etc. This application will create a huge productivity boost and help users create faster video solutions.
Brainstorm tool?
This application can also be used as a successful brainstorming tool for users who are looking to gain inspiration for new video content. This can be used in education and industry as it teaches different camera angles and gives you more control over your shots. As a professional designer, I constantly look at different design sites for inspiration, which is how I feel users can be using this tool, as well.
Negative
Risk of being replaced?
While researching these new AI video content applications, I read where a movie producer decided to scrap his entire production due to these new video applications being released to the public. He believes he will save a great amount of cost using these applications versus having an entire production team. With that said, many people will be out of jobs due to his decision to use this application.
I believe that video content creators need to understand these new technologies otherwise, there may be risk of people losing their jobs in the near future.
